Rage Triathlon 2010

I have done the Rage Tri the last several years. It was actually the first Tri I every did! The whole reason I started doing triathlons was because Kathy set up the 'Family Triathlon" in Provo. I decided that I better start training. My training race was the Rage Tri. I have been doing it ever since, except the year I was in Wisconsin getting my Animal Chiropractic certification and when Ella was born. That is a whole other story. I have done the Olympic distance the last couple years. 1500m swim, 25 mile bike and 10k run.
I have been running a lot over the winter and feel like I am in great shape. I was able to spend enough time training on the bike that I was very confident going into the race. I took second place last year. I checked the roster and saw that the guy that beat me last year wouldn't be here this year. Lucky for me because he would have beat me this year too - he is wicked fast!
I have also been very lucky to have my dad there for the race these last 2 years. Mom has a chiropractic conference every spring in Mesquite the same weekend, so dad gets to get up early, watch me race and takes lots of pictures. I love having my dad there. One more reason to race fast and the only reason I have pictures for this post!
Me before the race
I like to get there early and get all set up. I don't like stress before my race.
Me and Skinny before the race
All smiles! Skinny is one of my training buddies. He is a huge reason I am as fast as I am. He dishes out plenty of fitness every ride and run. I am lucky to have some awesome training partners!

Getting ready for the start
I am standing right next to the kid without a wetsuit. Brrr. The water was very chilly.

Me coming in from the swim
I was the first out of the water, but there seems to be a fish ahead of me!

Me and the Fish

More of me and the fish

Transition time!
It's always hard coming out of the water and getting ready for the rest of the race!

Quick Transitions
No socks needed, shoes clipped in and still dripping wet!

This is me at the end of the bike coming back into transition.

The end of the bike
There were two turn around points on the bike. At the first turn around I got to see how close people were behind me. This year to my surprise it was a very scary sight. Only a minute or so after the turn around was a guy on a very expensive bike, disc wheel on the back, 1080 Zipp in the front, a sponsored bike kit, a pointy helmet and monster thighs. That was the last thing I wanted to see behind me! I rode out of fear that he would catch me! I was able to hold him off on the bike. I had about a 2 to 3 minute lead on him. Luckily!

Start of the run
Vegas can actually be quite scenic. That is Lake Mead in the background.

End of the run
If you zoom in you can see the guy that almost caught me (with the badass bike) during the race. I was able to stay ahead of him to finish in 1st place. He was a huge motivation for me to race hard during most of the race.

The finish

Me and Skinny after the race
Once again: All Smiles!

Nothing like a massage to help ease muscles.

Getting my award
I won a new pair of Zoot running shoes.

Say Cheese!

My final time was 2:11:50. Swim-19:37, t1-1:25, Bike-1:07:05, T2-1:07, and run 42:37. I couldn't be happier about my race. I hope that everything works out that I can continue to do these as long as possible!
